Geothermal Futures Infographic
For the 2020 US Department of Energy Geothermal Design Challenge, our team wanted to raise public awareness of next-gen geothermal technologies and how they are making this vast source of energy accessible.
Process
We created a custom interactive infographic website to make the content more engaging and relevant. The whole process, from brainstorming to research, to writing, to art, to design, & development took about two months. Writing copy for the infographic was especially challenging as we needed to break down tricky topics into easily understood chunks for a broad public. We assembled the final website in standard web technologies for accessability like HTML, CSS & JS. I used the Greensock animation library plus micromodal.js for it’s accessibility features and some custom interaction code to handle the rotating planet on all input types. Taking a mobile-first approach, the website uses a responsive layout to adapt to different form factors.
Result
Our site got 2nd place in the challenge & we hope it is reaching a broader audience thanks to the X bot that a team member wrote which tweats geothermal fun facts and directs people to our site.
I hope you enjoy it and learn something too!
